Marni Turner, RCC
As an experienced and compassionate counsellor, I will work with you to create an emotionally safe place where you can experience, communicate and process thoughts and emotions.
I believe that you are equipped with the inner resources, strengths and skills to support and work towards your goals in therapy. I believe that individuals have the wisdom and knowledge within, holding the capacity to move through and overcome challenges in life.
I view my role as assisting and supporting you in accessing and bringing forward those strengths that reside within, building on them and expanding them. Together, we will work to uncover and discover your capacity to gain awareness and insight that will lend itself to creating positive shifts in areas you are experiencing challenges. I believe we all have the capacity to reflect, gain awareness and insight and work towards positive change.
I will assist you in understanding your patterns in thinking, emotions and behaviour, and work with you towards shifting those patterns to discover new ways of being. I will support you in the process to find the courage to move through the challenges and find a sense of meaning, purpose and belonging.
My Professional Biography
Holding a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver, BC, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, I have been a long standing Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
I have worked with adults, children, youth, couples and families in mental health settings, treatment centres and community agencies for over 15 years. Working in the capacity of a Mental Health Clinician, Clinical Counsellor, Family Therapist, Couple’s Counsellor, Mediator and Group Therapist, I have supported individuals who have experienced trauma, addiction, self harm, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive behaviours, relationship issues, and problematic eating patterns.
My Counselling Approach
I am grounded in Adlerian principles to guide the therapy process; that we hold core beliefs that we may or may not be aware of, developed in our early years of life. These core beliefs have informed our patterns of behaviour. Some of our beliefs and patterns are working well for us while others may need to shift to bring us closer to what we would like to see in our lives. We are striving to attain a variety of goals in areas of well being, relationships, family, community and career. We have an innate desire to be accepted and to accept ourselves.
I work from a holistic perspective with the understanding that individuals see through their own unique lens. I integrate other therapy modalities into my practice that include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness Based Techniques, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Based Therapy. As I view each individual and each couple as unique, I tailor therapy to individual and couple’s concerns and needs.
