Mona Kang, Registered Dietitian
Nutrition is key to our well being. Good food nourishes our body and soul. I find that there is a lot of confusion around the simplicity of nourishing our bodies. My philosophy around food is simple but wholesome – nourish your body inside out.
If you are struggling to find that balance where you feel happy with what you feed your body, a Registered Dietitian can help. I welcome the opportunity to help you reach your individualized wellness goals.
I am fluent in English, Punjabi and Hindi and have a passion for linking nutrition and ethnic foods.
I have worked in a large tertiary care hospital with over 9 years as a Clinical Dietitian. This includes over 4 years of being a Preceptor for 5th year University of British Columbia dietetic students, helping them gain experience on the Surgical ward.
I graduated with Bachelors of Home Science and Masters in Foods and Nutrition in India, where I worked as a dietitian for 3 years before moving to Canada. I then completed my Dietetic internship through Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health and started working as a Clinical Dietitian registered with College of Dietitians of BC.
I have worked in a variety of Clinical settings ranging from Medicine, to ICU. I specialize in pre and post surgical nutrition (especially Gastrointestinal) where I work closely with a multidisciplinary team and Surgeons to provide nutrition care. I am one of the few dietitians in British Columbia with extensive experience in Thoracic Surgery (focusing on Esophageal Cancer and any upper GI issues). My involvement spans from the time of cancer diagnosis to when surgical treatment is needed.

Nutrition is Key to Our Wellbeing
My years of experience as a dietitian seeing very sick patients, coupled with being a mom of 2 young children has helped me develop a very practical view on nutrition (read Nutrition Counselling for Better Health). I can help you find ways to look at nutrition in a new light that works for you.
My approach encompasses not only the nutritional part of food but everything that surrounds nutrition – your environment, your feelings, and your beliefs. I will work with you to sort through these to help you find pleasure in eating food and nourishing your body.
My areas of practice include:
- Oncology Nutrition
- Pre and Post surgical nutrition
- GI issues impacting nutrition
- Healthy eating for family
- Enteral Nutrition (I have extensive experience in Tube feeds)
- Weight Management
- Chronic Disease Nutrition Management (Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Heart Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and more)
When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my 2 children (aged 7 and 12). I love seeing them play soccer and being active as a family. We enjoy our yearly traditions- blueberry picking in summer and baking during Christmas time when you will find our house smelling of fresh baked goodies.
I firmly believe in self care, which for me manifests in activities like practising yoga, baking and cracking open a good book to read. I immensely enjoy being challenged to a game of chess by my 12 year old who manages to win every time.
