Taking a Mental Health Day

Today, I took a mental health day, after having decided that I needed it! I garnered up the energy, showered, got dressed, and went to visit a friend at a second stage transition house for domestic abuse.

We are in the midst of arranging for a spare room to be converted into a counselling room. It is coming along quite nicely …

Counselling room at the second stage transition house for women who have experienced domestic abuse.A few more stuffies, a dollhouse, and perhaps a rice tray for “sand” tray therapy, along with miniature toys. Such a powerful tool for the kiddos.

Rather pleased with myself for how this room is coming along.

What is a Mental Health Day?

A mental health day is when we feel we need to take a break from our regular commitments and responsibilities.

It is important to keep ourselves healthy, to relax, to regroup, or just to do nothing at all. Or one could do some decorating like I did! So enjoyable for me.

We can take a mental health day to clear our minds, take a break from heavy responsibilities, to process important events, or to reduce stress. A mental health day can help to prevent burnout.

Have you ever had a mental health day?

Try it! You may find that it is an important part of self-care and needs to be scheduled into your calendar on a regular basis.

Mental health days work differently for everyone, but there is no doubt that it can have compelling benefits.
