Types of Psychotherapies
There are many types of psychotherapy, models, and treatment methods to treat mental health and emotional issues. Each type of psychotherapy is founded on a particular theory or approach, and many have been applied to large numbers of clients or patients, providing evidence-based research to attest its validity and efficacy.
It is likely that your therapist or counsellor uses an eclectic combination of two to three preferred therapies, based on their individual training, qualification, and personal preference. The type of therapy that they use also depends very much on the issues presented to them by their clients.
The following are just some of the different types of therapies used by our therapists:
Client-centred humanistic psychotherapy
Brief solutions-focused therapy
Family Systems therapy
Experiential Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Observed and Experiential Integration Therapy
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
